just what I love, flipping through a fashion magazine seeing unrealistic shaped models wearing out of the stratosphere priced clothes that will NEVER be seen in the community in which I live. *Grin* But I DO appreciate the art of the AD's. And I enjoyed perusing the latest magazine in the break room. I actually loved this Fontainebleau ad, of which I 'lifted' the shades only.

The reflection in the lenses, one in crisp focus and one out of focus spoke to me. In thinking about what I could bring to the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers, I pondered what my humor means to me. I am not a teller of jokes. Never can remember a punch line for one thing!
I like life events that are funny, I certainly have lots of those. Puns are near and dear to my heart as well. Many people have described my humor as wicked. I am thinking them meant to say thought
provoking.
Marge (Art Impressions) is having a meltdown, what with it being Monday and laundry all at the same time! When I spied an ad recently for these yellow dryers and washer in a fashion magazine,
Just look at the call over at The Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers: SoSS #56- J is for Joke.
Marge might be distressed, but let's dial down normal and see if it doesn't help.
I used a long retired Basic Grey 'Urban Prairie' pattern for the wallpaper background.
A bit of cotton trim, a few staples.
Marge was fussy cut and placed along side that D-luxe dryers.
She was colored with Copics.

I definitely like my humor on the subtle side. How about you?
Now about that spin cycle...
Being an observer of nature and the passage of seasons, it's definitely Spring in the Pacific Northwest. Every kind of bulb pushing through the earth to put on a show of color. And I am guessing the caterpillars are waking up now that new leaves are unfurling on the perennials. Those furry, creepy crawlers will eat their weight in my garden preparing to burst forth in a myriad of color, eventually spreading their wings and flying to and fro.

I am entering this into the Fashionable Stamping Challenges #109 Butterflies. The call was to use butterflies on your work. I managed to find a mix of butterflies and moths in my collection.

They were stamped on watercolor paper with Archival Black. All were colored with Caran d'Ache watercolor crayons and Twinkling H2O's. The sentiment is from Wordsworth. It was inked with Memento Luxe 'Tuxedo Black'. I used a Club Scrap bamboo fragment to make the frame.

And so the Curtain Call Challenge for March 1 is an Inspiration Challenge with this yummy photograph. I haven't had the pleasure to sink my teeth into a Key Lime cupcake, but you can bet I'll put it on my list. So refreshing, don't you think?

Having a wonderful cupcake stamp from Oxford Impressions, I decided to go with a literal take on the photograph. My cupcake liner was inked onto Basic Grey paper from the Fact group and run through a paper crimper. The delicious frosting top was embossed with Sea Foam white embossing powder.

The real star of my Key Lime goodness is my beautiful amphibian ballerina. Doesn't she have the most perfect form? The stamp from Stampendous was inked onto watercolor paper that I had earlier created. I love the mottled skin. Her skirt is multilayered. First with a double layer of the white embossed with Silver Pearl ep and colored with a Spica clear marker and the underlayer done in a grey. The black band is vintage German scrap. And those minty green flower petals...cut from a silk scrap and attached as a slip. A tea tiny gold crown sits on her head.

The background has been stencils with Donna Downey collage stencil in various shades of Tim Holtz distress inks. I used a Sofft sponge to dab. A couple of sequins, the bright Key Lime net cut into points just like the skirt.

Since this is an inspiration card, I wanted to
encourage my Key Limey ballerina to keep
her head held high, to keep reaching for the
fulfillment of her wonderous froggie dreams.
The stamp is a classic Hamton Art Stamp
from the '90's. So things never change, and I
don't know about you, but for that I will jump
up and take a twirl...one must ALWAYS have
a dream or two!

Thanks for dancing by today...may you twirl
beautifully...

Well in the old days, like my sissies up there in the photo, it was called collage. But Mixed works for me. Here is my creative process:

I love shoes, though I ruined my feet at the altar of fashion. But these days, when I stumble across really fancy high heels, I must free them from their bondage (magazine), fussy cutting. I knew these Jessica Simpson red suede HigH hEeLs would make a perfect statement one day. Today is the day.

Actually I was waiting for these sissies...and my thoughtful son 'happened' upon the original of my photo and figured I'd be able to use them in a work of he{art}. The original is a color photo from sometime in the late '50's or early '60's I am guessing. I photo copied the original to keep it safe and worked with the black and white. First thing I did was use my early '00's deckle edged scissors that came in a warehouse pac (anyone still use them) to create the edge the old brownie camera prints had. That edge was then embossed with Sea Foam White embossing powder...looks pretty realistic, right? Dug for the metal photo corners.

Dry embossed the black background with a beautiful

Anna Griffin folder.

The thought bubbles are from two different companies, the oval shaped one is a Heidi Swapp, can't recall the rectangular one. They were cut from watercolored paper already colored in the aqua hues. I hand lettered:

sis, remember those Italian instruments of tortures? Nashville~Harvey's 1963.

oh, those Sexy red high heels~my bunions, my hammer toe, the nightmares.

The netting at the top reminded me of the old hair nets you used to see on ladies of a certain decade. I thought it was the perfect finishing touch. Please let me know how I did and how 'bout those red suede shoes?

Thanks for stopping by.
...love. Who doesn't want to make one somebody's heart flutter? It's been forever since Eunice dropped into my studio. She asked me for something special this year.

I couldn't resist working in a mixed media background with the Dylan Reaveley star stencil. I used ColourArte's Radiant Gel in Coral Berry. When it was dry, I rubbed several Gelatos over the top to color the background.

'Eunice' is a 'J Wright' stamp from the discontinued Stamps Happen Company. She is colored with Copics and Stickles. I added the netting, crochetd skirt and the silk flower petal underskirt. The scarf is a bit of gauze colored with markers. The I love you's are confetti that I embossed in matte powders.

I am entering this card in the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers:
Soss #52 K is for Kiss. If anyone is snarky, Eunice certainly qualifies.
Here's to Valentine's day and wishing you love overflowing...well, maybe not as overflow as Eunice's bodice...but a cup full~just the same! What is love? Recall the Jim Carrey SNL skit. There are quite a few versions on YouTube. grin. That will get you started....
I am having such fun playing with 'ancient' stamps from my stash. Today I used this Stamps Happen image, a Dolly Mama. The image was inked with Memento 'Tuxedo Black' and colored with Copics. I used Acrylic Paint for the polka dots. Added a bit of scrap with net (left over from her underskirt, grin.) at the bottom right.

The paper panels are from two different Basic Grey patterns. B-Side and Highline. This card was entered over on Splitcoaststampers SC579 today. I took a bit of liberty with the panels, turned it vertical. But then that's art, right?

And I ask the rhetorical question, does my derriere look big in this? Thanks for stopping by today. And leaving a comment??? I'm totally cool with that!

Hello again artful friends,

I've had time to play in the studio recently and am focusing on Valentine's. It's easy to create with the color palette associated with hearts, don't you think? The Ways to Use it Challenge on Splitcoaststampers 04 February 16 was all about tape. I chose the Magic Masking Tape Technique. Easy Peasy. You use painters tape and glossy paper. Apply your ink (I used Distress Inks) to the strip of masking tape. Three colors. Place them on your glossy paper, lightly pressing down to transfer the inks. Remove gently and continue.
My main image is a stamp from Stamps Happen. It is not a current stamp. I colored the panel with Copics, adding a bit of Stickles for the birthday girls' jewelry. She has a red tattoo on her back, to remind her of all those who love her! The glasses dimensional with Glossy Accents. The Anna Griffin champagne bottle was embossed and a snippet of trim added.

It's another Friday...livin' for the weekend, right? Sometimes the answer is a resounding Yes!
There's a new challenge category over on SCS Fridays that is called Mix-ability. It is all about
mixed media...a way to get your feet or rather fingers dirty with a multitude of techniques. This
is the third week and today it's called 'What's white and read all over'. It uses white space and text
in our work. Bonus to find a way to use the color red.
This sentiment has me thinking about more forward 'looking'. And so a mirror seemed to be the perfect image. It is from a long gone local rubber stamp man...though you might be able to find it at Stamp Francisco. I embossed
it with clear powder and popped it slightly from the card base. Mirrored paper was placed under into the frame. I masked the
sentiment so I could place the 'punchline'
under the mirror.

Red tule seemed the perfect accent as well as
an eyelet edge. All long stashed supplies.
It's a very grey day here and my photographing was not at it's best, but I did like this next image that
captured my shadow. I am off to ponder...have a wonderful weekend, all!
I've been singing this beloved hymn for two weeks now, in the hallways at work, out on my bike, and in my studio. It is one that sets my spirit soaring. It is one that gives me great comfort as well. Time for the second Hymn Challenge of 2013, check it out at Triple the Scraps: Hymn and Scripture Challenge

I enjoyed the back story that Patter was kind enough to include with this challenge. A true test of faith is when no matter what is thrown your way, you will still rise up and declare that it is well for the Lord is in control. Even when you don't feel like it, or you can't see the forest for the trees, or when every
possible thing that could go wrong...ever feel that way?

During my time singing this hymn mostly to myself...I kept thinking on Henry Ward Beecher's

quote: the Soul is a temple God is silently building by night and

by day. Precious thoughts are building it, unselfish love is building it, all~penetrating faith is building it. I love this picture from a National Geographic magazine of an ancient temple in ruins with the ocean doing what oceans' do...renew, reshape, refresh. And so it is with my soul...the Lord is rebuilding my soul even as my earthy body is

decaying. My gift back is to honor MY temple so that I might weather the storms that threaten my faith.

I created the left page in photoshop, layering the quote over the ocean...it's power is both wonderful and

destructive. I used cork for the date tab...a bit of vintage German foil and washi tape. On the right side, is a bit of vintage gold tapestry cut to resemble a banner overlaid with the sentiment ~smile with your soul~. I used an acetate heart over my soul in the title of the hymn. There are three tiny staples on the heart. I like to use threes on my work to symbolize the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The phrase, Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord, on my soul is highlighted.

It is a New Year, new opportunities, still fresh beginnings! I'm jumping in hopeful...anticipating that every day will filled to the brim with whatever the Lord has for me. And...for the uncharted waters, that I will navigate in HIS strength.

I am still chasing the balance...just as I've written in many posts before! Don't know if having many
passions is a blessing, insert big smile here. Last year took me away from paper art and out on my
bike as I logged over 2,000 miles under my pedal power. More about that on my cycling blog...

I do want to participate in the Patter Cross 2013 Hymn and Scripture Challenge. In 2009 she led
His Holy Name study that I very much enjoyed. If you are interested in my work you can find some
of them right here! I am remaining positive that EVENTUALLY I will 'catch' up. And extremely thankful that the LORD is gracious to me as I live unbalanced...
It is Lift High the Cross written in 1887 by George William Kicthin. Patter has several links for listening to the song. I spent much time just meditating on the words and did watch the Youtube video with used footage from the movie 'The Passion of Christ'. Which for me is heartbreaking~ the visuals of the physical sacrifice Jesus took upon himself, indeed the weight of the whole world.

I am using a hymnal gifted me by my neighbors as my base for the challenges. And while the
hymn wasn't in this '70's songbook, I printed the music and inserted it on a random page. I
couldn't get away from the immense weight Jesus bore for us. The facing page is covered with
black inks, leaving tiny bits of the print showing through...which says, His LOVE is
everlasting...forever and always...a lovely serendipity for the scripture I chose, Revelation 7:12.
I also used Twinkling H2O's swirling across the upper page to convey the heavens.

day. The cross was constructed from a safety match. HE is indeed the LIGHT of the world.
And forever and forever I will proclaim the name of JESUS.

Thank you for hanging in there with me, I have some formatting issues that I am not sure
how to correct...so this post doesn't look as perfect as I would want, but then perhaps that is
a message to me.....
I can't begin to imagine how she feels. And yet, I am compelled to pour time into these bits of papers and inks. Isn't that the gift we give when we are moved to express what is in our hearts. Words so often fail and yet, we continue on to find the right image or sentiment that will be a salve to a broken heart.

The Inkadinkadoo Kid's Quote sentiment reads, "if you need to fix a BROKEN Heart, friends make the best glue". Such comfort out of the mouth of a precious child! Having lost loved ones, I do know there will be many stages of grieving. My prayer is that she will find each need met along the way.

It's been a long time since I've played with a color challenge. Today over on SplitcoastStampers, the colors were black, limeade, and poppy. And I must admit they made me think of the hues of sherbet.
I've had this beauty from Stamp Francisco inked and waiting for a spell. I knew I wanted to use the amusing Bette Midler quote: Cherish forever what makes you unique. Cuz you're really a YAWN if
goes.

What do you think makes U unique...one of a kind, remarkable, unusual? I've thought about this in many ways throughout my life and pondered about when family members who knew me as a child and growing into a women died...would the essence of who I am continue. My sons know me as their mom, but can only relate to my stories about times 'BC' (before children). And my husband has a window into me that didn't begin until well into my 30's.

As Shakespeare said so well...through Polonius, in Hamlet, "to thine own self be true". Keep on remembering and pondering and telling your stories...look in the mirror and truly cherish the woman looking back at you.

Blessings
Over on the Moxie Fab World, way back the 4th of January, was an absolutely fabulous collection of map inspired creations....map lampshades, map chairs, map paper boats, map legwear...who doesn't adore the sight of a map, would you tell me? They invoke tender memories of getting back to people or leaving people 'till soon' as my friend Stella says. Maps inspire hopes, dreams, adventures, challenges all the while bringing us back to the very essence of our hearts.

So I've been thinking on how to convey the idea of exploring that big~O world outside and kept coming back to the thought of what is outside your vision. A limitless world. You just have to take that step! Sometimes, maybe often times, it's a leap of faith, but open your eyes, take a deep breath, and pack those bags!

For my card, I've used Lynn Ward's Green Pepper Press Physical Graffiti stamps which include the window and sentiment. My intrepid adventurer is an unknown image. The beautiful world out his window is a DCVW map paper. I added 'go' and the twine at the top. The wallpaper for the room is Basic Grey.

I never want to stop exploring my world and while the days of international travel for me are more in my past, I have so much right in my own backyard that beckons me. What about you? I would love to hear w{here} is calling you.

Be blessed

Happy New Year, everyone! And even though it's wintery, snowy, frosty, cold, foggy, rainy, I can't help but feel optimistic about the fresh breath a new year brings. How about you? I am giddy just thinking of all the potential that lies ahead.

Over on the Moxie Fab World blog, the current Tuesday Trigger is all about 'By the Numbers'. When I saw the charming quilt with the field of random numbers, I couldn't help but think about those Cosmo
Cricket 'Joy Ride' numbers. So to celebrate 2012 and the journey it brings, I designed a card for a dear friend who has been very brave this year, journeying onward and into the next chapter of her life. And while the road has had lots of twists and hair bending turns, I am confident she'll also find smooth straights ahead.

The Amuse sentiment : The journey is the Reward was inked along the side of my card. I used the sketch from SplitcoastStampers SC366 for the layout. A piece of upholstery fabric along the side (actually from my friend) and the bottom horizontal panel crimped. The 'T' charm was created with a Tim Holtz fragment. The 2012 numbers are from Crafty Secrets.

Thanks so much for stopping by and I encourage you to stop now, close your eyes, take a deep breath and slowly exhale...and pause....Happy Fresh New Year!

Blessings for today,
I've always had a fondness for chairs...ones that are functional and others that are admired for the design gathering dust upon my shelves! When I saw the challenge issued for the Moxie Fab pot pourri Get Inspired Week, I just knew inspiration would fly!

Recently I've taken to cutting chairs out of ads for future use. So these uber hip ones in a World Market ad were just waiting for the muse. I very carefully cut the spaces between the backs so that the Basic Grey 'Oxford' Fencing paper would show behind the chairs. I used an epoxied 'C' as a pillow. The moulding, floor 'board' and the library all are various papers from the BG 'Oxford' group. I cut a strip of the books and stacked vertically to create a bookcase. The vintage trim for texture as well as the waxed string along the edge of the bookcase add to the illusion of my room. And a finishing touch, the lovely Henry David Thoreau quote:

A house needs these chairs

Ones for solitude,

Ones for friendship

Then those for society!

I'd love to have you come visit me...I'll even let you pick YOUR favorite chair.

As a side note, just last Wednesday, my dear teenager came home from youth group with a gift for me.

They had a white elephant exchange. Knowing I collected chairs from all eras, he truly thought he was bringing home a treasure. It is a colonial American delight, that's for sure...just got to find the perfect closet...to hide it in! There will always be a need for a white elephant gift. Thank you dear &d for thinking of me.

It was easy to fall in love with the Moxie Fab World Get Inspired by Fashion Challenge. What's not to love about this houndstooth jacket? I just had to dress this fabulous B Line Designs 'Anticipation'
lady in Basic Grey houndstooth. She's ready to head out for a luncheon with her gloves and hat.
It's one last glance in the mirror and then out the door.
The driftwood mirror over on the at west end website inspired me to create her reflection in my shell mirror using reflective paper and free handing her jacket top. Of course having that Oscar Wilde quote was the perfect accessory, wouldn't you say?

May you have time for artful pursuits this weekend and time to pause for reflection, too.
And only off by one day in the actual posting. That's some kind of record for me...big smile. I have to say that Tim's final tag for 2011 was my favorite. I loved all the shabby vintage goodness. Music score, tinsel, German scrap, that heavenly blue 'home', foil Wish, and the porcelain doll. Lovely.

I thought on my interpretation for quite awhile, looking through papers and such. The background of the tag sans his tissue paper is close. I stamped the crackle element in random areas with a charcoal ink and then used the Picket Fence stain (that is one product I sprung for and love it!!!) Next I stamped a music score along four horizontal lines in Snow Cap ink embossing with Mystic embossing Powder (it's the most delicate pink iridescence ~~~ thank's K for that sample so long ago). Then on top of all those elements I daubed Salmon paint that had been diluted with a bit of water. Very pleased with this background and in only one attempt...maybe I am getting better.

My spirit model was inked on vellum and part of the words to 1 Corinthians 13 were placed behind the doll. Faith, hope, and love...a pearl heart button. Her dress is vintage lace part of a treasured stash of laces given to me by a artful friend. I added the scalloped velvet band, a vintage German scarp pink bow and paper flower. Along the edge is the rest of the verse...but the greatest of these is LOVE.

And to me Love is the most precious gift to be given in any season. Is your heart overflowing...for in that, will others be blessed without speaking a single word.

Thanks so much for spending time with me. I feel your gentle thoughts and love.

I adore the day 11 tag of Tim Holtz, rockin the retro '60's Santa that I remember. And while I couldn't compete Santawise, I decide to carry the mid century feel with more of a graphic vibe. These are some My Mind's Eye papers from several years ago...loved the groovy tree. My background for the tag was again a three tag learning experience with the blending and water 'slinging'! I do like the depth of the background and am encouraged with my progress. I used the tattered snowflake die cut into upcycled packaging, daubed and snowed. I manage to revive my years old daubers and rather like to play around with the mottled look. Don't you think it adds a good deal of texture back behind the tree? The pom pom ornaments were cut from some lime green trim. And eyelash fiber wrapped at the bottom in yummy blue, yellow and green colors. I must say I enjoyed the step by step tutorials and that shrinky melting pot with the larger die cuts is something I am going to attempt.

This one definitely fits my homestyle with the rockin' ocean, sea glass, midnight sky theme.

So how are you feeling on this next to last day of the 12? Learned some new techniques...I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Oh my goodness...I loved the crystal facet ornaments Tim Holtz showed on his tag. In fact, I tried 4 times and was never happy with the clarity of my ornaments. So instead, I used the Flourish set to create my ornaments as well as vintage Shiny Brites.

I was anxious to try this as I love embossed anything, really! So again determined to use what I have, I spent some time in my stamped image book looking for something to 'stand' in for his candlestick. Doesn't this Eiffel Tower (Christina Renee) look smashing inked with VersaFine Smokey Grey and stamped on black cardstock. My damask background is from Purple Onion Designs. I used the Limited Edition Christmas colors of the distress inks. So this was the Evergreen bough and Festive Berries. Still need lots of practice blending...but I am pleased with the enameled look of the overall tag. My little jingle bell wreath gives some sparkle. The PEACE is a font from Purple Onion Designs called 'Pink Flamingo' inked onto acetate with jet black Stazon. I used a bit of vintage velvet trim for the bow and the tag.
